Hypothesis is a web annotation layer. The Chrome and Firefox extensions let you highlight a public page or a PDF and keep private, group, or public notes. A lot of humanities courses still run seminars this way.
Free for personal and class groups. Safari and Edge are not first-class. Annotations live on Hypothesis’s servers, so a paper you might need in five years should also live in Zotero.
